Nine arch bridge, Ella Srilanka

ree

Nestled between the Ella and Demodara railway stations in Sri Lanka, this upcoming tourist attraction promises to be a noteworthy site for visitors. Designed by the renowned local engineer D.J. Wimalasurendra, a figure celebrated in Sri Lanka's engineering history, the bridge came to fruition under the watchful eye of British chief engineer M. Cole Bowen.

The construction, completed in 1919, faced some delays due to a shortage of steel during World War I. As a result, the bridge was built using locally sourced bricks, with labor provided by the surrounding villagers.

One of the most captivating features of this bridge is its nine brick arches, which support the railway track connecting the two stations. The surrounding landscape, rich with picturesque views of tea estates and lush greenery, attracts both tourists and locals eager to soak in the beauty of the area.
